How it works

  1. Join a tournament

Official tournaments, friends leagues or a duel with Rival AI. Every one has a start, a finish and a winner.

  2. Build your portfolio

Spread your $100,000 across US stocks, ETFs and ten major crypto assets. Cash is a valid move too.

  3. Make moves any market day

Trade any day the US market is open. Strategy beats screen time.

  4. Climb the leaderboard

Standings update with real market prices after every close.

Why it's more fun than a simulator

  1. You're never playing alone

Every portfolio is ranked against real players, so every pick counts.

  2. An AI in the field

Rival AI plays by the same rules. Finishing ahead of it means something.

  3. Same rules for everyone

Same cash, same prices, same deadlines, and prices checked against an independent source after every close.

What a game actually looks like

You join a tournament and get $100,000 in virtual money, the same as everyone else. You split it however you like: companies you know, an ETF, some crypto, and whatever you want to keep as cash. Your picks are priced at real market prices, so from then on your portfolio moves with the market.

After every market close, Rival records each player's value and re-ranks the table. For example, a portfolio worth $104,500 is a 4.5% return. A rival at $103,900 is at 3.9%, right behind you, and that gap is the game.

On any day the US market is open, you can change your portfolio, up to 10 buys and sells a day. When the final close arrives, the standings freeze and the highest return wins.

Three ways to play

Official tournaments are run by Rival, with published rules and fixed dates. Some include a prize for the best eligible player.

Friends leagues are yours: choose the dates, send one link to the group chat, and only people with the link can join. You can also make a league public so anyone on Rival can enter.

A duel is one on one against Rival AI, an AI investor that plays by the same rules, deadlines and prices as you.

How it differs from a stock simulator

A simulator is built for practice. You trade alone, for as long as you like, and there is nobody to beat. Rival is built as a competition: a start date, a finish line, the same money and prices for every player, and one leaderboard.

You don't need charts, trading experience or hours in front of a screen. Plenty of players start with companies they already know, then make a move when they have a reason to.

What keeps it fair

A tournament's rules are fixed when it is created. Closing prices and portfolio values are checked against an independent source after every close. Stock splits and supported dividends are applied to your holdings, and nothing is ever valued at a guessed price. Players level to the cent share the place.

Rival is a game for entertainment and education, for players 18 or older. It gives no financial advice, and a good run here says nothing about how real investments would do.

Questions

How do I win?

Finish with the highest total return at the tournament's final close. Players level to the cent share the place.

What can I invest in?

US stocks and ETFs, plus ten major crypto assets, all valued with real market prices.

How long does a game last?

Official tournaments publish their dates. In a friends league, the creator chooses them: a couple of weeks, a few months or longer. A duel with Rival AI can run two weeks, a month, or to your own end date.

Do I have to download anything?

No. Rival runs in your browser, on a phone or a computer. You need an account with a verified email address to play.

Is it really free? Is any real money involved?

Free, with no deposits. Everyone plays with the same $100,000 in virtual money at real market prices. Nothing is actually bought or sold, and Rival gives no financial advice.

Ready to prove it?

Free to play. Same $100,000 for everyone. The leaderboard decides.
